New iPad models appear in EEC

(Pocket-lint) – Apple is reportedly working on new iPad models – not iPad Pro models – and new evidence has surfaced to suggest that might be true.

Apple’s iPad Mini 4 is pretty long in the tooth at this point and desperately needs an update. When Apple launched an entry-level iPad last year, it was assumed that the iPad Mini would be killed off. However, new iPad model numbers have made their way into the EEC (Eurasian Economic Commission) database, including one for an alleged iPad Mini 5 device, as spotted by MySmartPrice.

Models A2123, A2124, A2153, A2154, A2133 and A2152 appeared in the database of the Russian certification agency. But there were no other clues, including specs, listed with the numbers. Nevertheless, it has been reported that the 7.9-inch iPad Mini will receive an update. Keep in mind that last year’s iPad should also be refreshed. A 10-inch model with thinner bezels was rumored.

If previous reports are true, the iPad Mini 5 will be launched in the first half of 2019. Digitimes, which has an average track record (but has well-connected sources in the vendor industry in Asia), recently claimed that vendors Apple were ramping up production of touchscreens for two new iPad models that are expected to launch in the first half of this year. And one of them will be the Mini 5.
