IPhones are gradually improving with each generation when it comes to its optics, as well as other categories. With the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max, Apple offers a versatile camera solution, but that doesn’t make it the best on the market. This is because where Android phone makers have widely embraced the periscope telephoto lens, Apple continues to follow the pack and will continue to do so for a few years now. For those wondering, a new report claims the 2023 iPhone lineup will feature this new lens solution.
The previous prediction spoke of the arrival of the Periscope telephoto lens for the iPhone family 2022
Ming-Chi Kuo of TF International Securities has slightly changed his forecast for which iPhone models will be treated with a telephoto periscope. While he previously said that the 2022 iPhones would benefit from this upgrade, he now predicts that the 2023 iPhone series will feature them. He doesn’t give an explanation as to why his predictions have changed slightly, but it is for now.
Current generation iPhones have a maximum zoom level of 2.5x while competing products can reach a maximum of 100x, easily beating the Apple lineup in this segment. A periscope telephoto lens means the iPhone 2023 will have extended zoom capabilities without compromising the thickness of the camera module. For 2021, the iPhone 13 line is expected to arrive with improved telephoto lenses, with Apple slated to go from a 5P to 6P lens, allowing more light to enter to create a nicer picture.
For 2022, Apple will continue to focus on improving the telephoto lens, with the iPhone 14 supposedly featuring a 7P lens instead of a 6P. In case you forgot, Kuo also predicted that some iPhones in 2022 would adopt a perforated design instead of a notch. Although Apple is slow to adopt a few technologies and standards, it is doing so so that it can improve on them or wait for it to be widely adopted in the industry. This gives the company leverage over its supply chain partners when it comes to pricing while also focusing on the quality of parts to provide the best possible user experience.
While you might have to wait two years to see improved zoom capabilities on the iPhone 2023, we recommend treating Kuo’s prediction with a pinch of salt for now, and we’ll be back with more updates. .
