How to Unlock Two Hidden iPhone Features That Make Typing and Navigation Easier

Apple is recent iOS16 The iPhone update gave users a few new features to play with, but there are a few older tricks you might not know that are also extremely useful. Two hidden features you might not know about include a hidden touchpad and an easy way to select multiple files on your iPhone at once.

Apple’s latest iOS update brought new features, such as the ability to edit or completely delete errant iMessages. However, hidden features have been part of iOS updates for a while. While users may find a few here and there while playing with their iPhones, some may have missed a few along the way. Here are two features you might not have known existed that can make typing and navigation a little easier.

The first involves a nifty little trick that allows someone to select multiple files at once. The feature is called the “two-finger pan gesture” and has been around since iOS 13 but is not widely known. To use the feature, follow these steps:

  1. Open an app where swipe to select is enabled. This includes apps like your default Mail, Notes, Contacts, and Files.

  2. Once you have opened the app you want, long press with two fingers to activate selection mode. At this point, you can either choose to slide your fingers across the screen to select other nearby items, or just lift your fingers and select all the files you want to highlight.

  3. If you choose to use the swipe feature and choose too many, you can just swipe away the items you didn’t want.

The following feature is one that can make text editing much easier on your iPhone. The feature acts like a mouse pad once you unlock it and lets you move a cursor around your text to place it where you want it. This can be very handy when you have a large amount of text and need to edit a particular part of it. To unlock this feature, you will need to do the following:

  1. Wherever you typed a block of text, just bring up your keyboard, then press and hold the spacebar until the keyboard goes blank. You should feel the haptic feedback and see the cursor for a moment on your screen.

  2. Now, with your finger still pressed, start moving your finger across the keyboard. You should see the cursor reappear as you go.
  3. Once you have moved the cursor to the desired location in the text, simply remove your finger from the screen. You should now be able to make any changes you want. If you need to change more than one thing, you can press the spacebar again and repeat the process.
