Apple (AAPL) – If you own these older iPhone or iPad models, Apple has a rare software update for you

Apple Inc. AAPL on Wednesday released a security update for certain older iPhone, iPad and iPod models.

What happened: iOS 12.5.6 update is available for iphone 5s, Iphone 6and iPhone 6Plus smart phones.

Apple said the update also extends to iPad mini 2 and iPad mini 3 as good as Ipod touch (6th generation).

Why is it important: Apple’s latest update for these devices was released on September 23, 2021. The company does not often release security updates for its older devices and software and therefore the current version could be interpreted as a solution to a serious problem.

Users of these devices can update them by going to the Settings app and selecting Software Update under the General tab.

Earlier in August, Apple released an update to its Safari web browser for the macOS Big Sur and macOS Catalina operating systems that focused on a similar issue.

Price action: On Wednesday, Apple shares closed down 1.1% at $157.22 in the regular session and fell 0.8% in after-hours trading, according to data from Benzinga Pro.
